Horton's Hoot

July 2006

Congratulations, NH Rainbow!

Today is your day!

We're off to great places!

We're off and away!

We have brains in our head. We have feet in our shoes. We'll steer ourselves in any direction we choose. We're on our own and we know what we know. And we're the ones who'll decide where to go!

We're off  and away! Grand Assembly is over and I am looking forward to the year ahead! Oh, the places we are going this summer! New Hampshire Rainbow, be sure to join your amazing mayzies and the Star-bellied Sneetches in their travels this summer. From Rhode Island to Supreme Assembly in Oklahoma, to Vermont, to the Shrine Parade, it is guaranteed to be an adventure you won't want to miss! Don't forget to sign up, I believe in you all! A persons a person no matter how small...or tall!

Reach out and Read

This year NH Rainbow will be helping the Reach out and Read Foundation in New Hampshire. Reach out and Read is devoted to making literacy a part of Pediatric care.  Pediatricians strive to encourage parents and care takers to read out loud to their children. As a part of this program, pediatricians give age appropriate books to their patients at all check- ups from six months to five years of age.

We will help by collecting books (in new condition), and donating them to Reach out and Read. Each Assembly will also be selling stars to local businesses, the Masonic family, family and friends, etc. Assemblies are encouraged to sell as many stars as possible. An award will be given at Grand Assembly to the Assembly who sells the most. Other fundraisers are the Snoozin' Sleepathon, the Grinch Ball, and the Happy Birthday to You Auction. All of these proceeds will benefit our charity. NH Rainbow will also be volunteering hours and giving of ourselves to share the magic of books and support literacy in school age children. Assemblies will go out to local libraries, day care centers, elementary schools, etc and give the gift of reading. Each Assembly's volunteer hours will be reported to the Grand Recorder/Honored Station. An award will be given at Grand Assembly to the assembly with the most hours volunteered.

Grand Honored Station

Grand Recorder is this years honored station. Please be sure to report all of your volunteered hours to her on a monthly basis. Please turn in all of the collected books to her as well.

Grand Officer Reception

You are invited to the Grand officer Reception of the Amazing Mayzies at the Nashua Masonic Temple on August 19, 2006. Registration is at 1pm. Program starts at 2pm. Bring your great thinks and smiles!

Official Visitations

This Year, New Hampshire's eight active assemblies have been put into four districts. To go along with this year's theme of fun and imagination, each district will be assigned a book. Each assembly will work individually on their own OV/skit. Although the assemblies will be working on their own to create a 25-30 minute skit, the two assemblies must work together on the other tasks required for an OV. Use your imagination and be creative! Explore your great thinks! Nothing's impossible "If you never did, you should. These things are fun. And fun is good!" _Dr. Seuss

Greetings From Ashley GWA

From Rhode Island Grand Assembly in matching pajamas, to Supreme Assembly in Oklahoma where Mackenzie showed her stuff as Thing 2. From Vermont Grand Assembly where we had a Seuss Drill to the Shrine Parade and Grand Officer retreat in Plymouth. From the Canobie Lake event to the summer finale, the Grand Officer Reception in Nashua, this summer was fun packed with laughter and memories to last a lifetime. As always NH Rainbow performed a drill at Grand Chapter. AllyB did an amazing job organizing our drill, all the hard work really showed off. We even had a few guest Majority girl participants which made it more exciting! I’m sure all who participated in these events feel the same way. New Hampshire Rainbow sure did its fair share of traveling the country and we, no doubt, showed our NH pride everywhere we went! Thank you to all of the girls and adults who participated. Your enthusiasm and smiling faces made this summer one to treasure!

Now we are into September with more exciting events! I wish all the assemblies the very best as you begin your meetings! Don't forget the most important part of this year- HAVE FUN! As our awesome t-shirt says, "You can't spell fun without U in the middle!" -Dr. Seuss.

As for ongoing projects, we have much to work ok. There are several things to keep in mind this year to help benefit the Reach Out And Read foundation.

*Reading to the Community

December 2006

Hello New Hampshire!!

I hope everyone had a great holiday enjoying the five 'F's! That, of course, is food, fun, fellowship, family and friends.
November was a successful month starting with the Grand Representatives Coffee Day fundraiser in Nashua in the early morning hours to Penacook that night for the statewide Charity Grinch Ball. Our dinner was delicious and we had fantastic servers. And I must admit that even I 'the Lactard' indulged in the dessert topping! The trivia and musical scavenger hunt brought giggles galore which were followed with dancing to music played by the most loved Tom in NH. Tom was a great DJ and I must mention that he brought along some friends from Maine DeMolay! Everyone had a chance for a photo to be taken with the Grinch. We made great progress on our fundraiser for Reach Out And Read! Thank you to everyone who came out to support our state charity!
On Friday. November 17, our Pledges traveled to Concord to see Seussical the Musical. We all had a great time and shared lots of laughs. The following day we traveled to Tilton for our first school of instruction. On the 19th we traveled to Pemi for the Horton Hears a Who OV. Plymouth and Pemi Assembly did a fabulous job; you all really set the bar high! Thank you to everyone who participated and attended to show your support for NH Rainbow!
Now Thanksgiving has passed and the Christmas season is upon us! This month we have our local, Grand Officer and Grand Representatives holiday parties and the fraternal Unity Party.
I hope everyone continues to have a wonderful holiday season filled with Rainbow smiles and giggles. As you travel over the highways and hills of NH and beyond, be sure to treasure the company of your family and friends. May God bless you with his traveling mercies and Love during this Holy season!

JANUARY 2007

Happy New Year!!*

I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday celebrations!

Since it is a tradition to have a new years resolution, I believe there is no better time than right now for everyone to pledge to find a girl to introduce Rainbow! And with that pledge to keep all of our members!

As most may know Derry Assembly is in serious need of our support. They are struggling with membership and need more girls and encouragement in order to stay open and active. Derry Assembly has asked for the help of everyone in our jurisdiction. Derry meets on the first and third Wednesdays of each month. The girls and adults are planning on having their meetings on the first Monday and traveling to other assemblies for their second meeting. I urge all Grand Officers, Grand representatives and all of NH Rainbow to reach out and help Derry.

In the spirit of Dr. Seuss I am reminded of the story of The Lorax and the Truffula trees. We need to think about spreading the fun of Rainbow like we are planting a forest…

“UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
nothing is going to get better. It’s not.
SO...
Catch! calls the Once-ler. He lets something fall.
It’s a Truffula Seed. It’s the last one of all!

You’re in charge of the last of the Truffula Seeds.
And Truffula Trees are what everyone needs. Plant a new Truffula. Treat it with care.
Give it clean water. And feed it fresh air.”

We are in charge of the future of NH Rainbow! We have the ability to make it thrive and grow!

Have fun meetings and events. Invite your sponsoring bodies friends and families to projects. Have a majority night. Tell girls and families about our order when reading in libraries and other locations. Make a special project to tell your community about the great service Rainbow does and how important it is! And remember that “UNLESS someone likes YOU cares a whole awful lot. Nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” We can do it NH Rainbow, lets make 2007’s New Years Resolution count!

Best wishes to the assemblies and new officers in the upcoming term!

Ashley Steele, GWA in NH

March 2007

Hear ye! Hear ye! A birthday is near!

Someone is turning 50 this year!

Who could it be, is it someone you know?

Having a party to keep us on the go.

Maybe Thing 1 or Thing 2?

Not the red fish or the yellow fish,

but could it be the blue  fish?

It's surely not a Sneetch, they're not old.

Could it be that cranky fish in the bowl?

Oh, I know WHO, I'm positive that,

This birthday belongs to Dr. Seuss and the Cat in the Hat!

Yes my friends it was 50 years ago that Dr. Seuss's book, the Ct in the Hat was published. Just how awesome it is that our "Happy Birthday to You! Auction" starts off this month. It's such a proper occasion, don't you think? March winds may be blowing in  but how much fun it will bring to celebrate Theodore Geisel aka Dr Seuss' 103 rd birthday and the Cat in the Hats 50th. So bring your party smiles and your dancin' feet to celebrate the occasion in the true NH Rainbow spirit.

NH Rainbow is one of the many organizations across the country promoting literacy and reading for all especially this month. March 30 is the day of our Auction and is the nationwide Read Across America Day which also celebrates their10th anniversary this year. We have lots to be excited about as we volunteer and serve our communities working to erase illiteracy where ever we can. Be  active in your communities. Remember you can still read to a child in a library or a school program may already be in place. Dont miss the chance to support and tell others about our great organization as well! Reading is fun, share the gift.

March is also filled with exciting statewide events and out of state Grand Assemblies. I am looking forward to seeing everyone very soon! Be sure to check out the events and jump on the Bandwagon of FUN! We have a lot coming up! Don't miss out!

Grand Assembly will be here soon so keep those fundraisers and projects going! Please, Please feel free to contact myself or Mom Morrison if you need anything or have any questions. Let me know if more Stars or book labels are needed.

Ashley Steele, GWA in NH
